The weather app turns orange. Your neighbor is already dragging a gas can to the garage. You just want the phones charged, the router up, and maybe a lamp so nobody trips over the dog.
Good news: you don’t need a $2,000 box for that. Five portable power stations were listed at $500 or less on their makers’ own U.S. stores when we checked on September 29, 2026. A portable power station is a big rechargeable battery with real wall outlets on it. Search engines like to call it a “solar generator.” Same thing. The “solar” part is a panel you buy separately.
This is a buyer’s guide, not a lab test. We haven’t run these units ourselves. Every number below comes from the maker’s own spec page (or the live Amazon title where the maker’s page left a blank, and we say so when that happens). Prices are the maker’s list price on that date. Prices move, especially around storm season and sales.
Two quick words first: Wh (watt-hours) is how big the gas tank is. W (watts) is how hard you can push the pedal at one time. You need enough of both.

Side-by-side comparison
All numbers are maker claims. “Rated” is what the station can hold all day. “Surge” is a short burst for things with motors that kick when they start. Boost modes (EcoFlow X-Boost, BLUETTI Power Lifting) are a different trick and are not rated output — more on that below.
| Model | Capacity | Rated AC | Surge | Battery | Solar input max | Weight | Warranty | Maker price (Sep 29, 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Anker SOLIX C1000 Gen 2 | 1,024 Wh | 2,000 W | 3,000 W (peak) | LiFePO4 per Amazon title; Anker’s table leaves it blank | 600 W (11–60 V) | 24.9 lb | 5 years | $499.99 |
| EcoFlow DELTA 3 Classic | 1,024 Wh | 1,800 W | 3,600 W (X-Boost 2,600 W is separate) | LFP (LiFePO4) | 500 W | 12.1 ± 0.3 kg (about 26.7 lb) | 3 years + 2 more with app registration | $499 |
| BLUETTI Elite 100 V2 | 1,024 Wh | 1,800 W | 3,600 W (Power Lifting 2,700 W is separate) | LiFePO4 | 1,000 W (12–60 V, 20 A) | 25 lb (11.5 kg) | 5 years | $489 (listed down from $499) |
| EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus | 286 Wh (expandable to 858 Wh) | 600 W | 1,200 W (X-Boost 1,200 W is separate) | LiFePO4 | 220 W | 10.4 lb | 5 years | $299 |
| Jackery Explorer 300 v2 | 288 Wh | 300 W | 600 W (peak) | LiFePO4 | Not printed on spec table (Jackery’s FAQ points to panels up to 100 W) | 8.16 lb | 3+2 years | $279 (listed down from $299) |
LiFePO4 = lithium iron phosphate, a battery type that trades a little weight for a lot more charge cycles. LFP is the same thing, shorter.
Best overall under $500: Anker SOLIX C1000 Gen 2
If you only buy one box, this is the one to look at first. It sits right at the $500 line on Anker’s store ($499.99 on September 29, 2026) and packs the most muscle of the group.
- 1,024 Wh of storage.
- 2,000 W steady AC output, 3,000 W peak.
- Up to 600 W of solar input (11–60 V) through an XT60i port.
- 4,000 cycles to at least 80% capacity, per Anker.
- About 10 ms UPS switchover. UPS means if the wall power drops, it takes over fast enough that many devices never notice.
- 24.9 lb. Five-year warranty listed in Anker’s spec data.
Who it’s for: You want one ~1 kWh box that can run a typical drip coffee maker in the morning (check its watts) and still keep the router, phones, and lamps going through a long evening.
Honest downside: It doesn’t grow. Anker’s own FAQ says C1000 Gen 2 has no expansion battery option. If you think you’ll want more storage later, this isn’t your upgrade path. Also, Anker’s spec table leaves the battery chemistry field blank; the “LiFePO4” comes from the Amazon listing title.

Best for fast recharging before the storm: EcoFlow DELTA 3 Classic
The whole trick with outage prep is to charge the station before the storm, while the wall still works. DELTA 3 Classic is built for that. EcoFlow says it goes 0–80% in about 45 minutes and full in about an hour on wall power. EcoFlow listed it at $499 on September 29, 2026.
- 1,024 Wh, LFP (LiFePO4) cells.
- 1,800 W rated AC, 3,600 W surge.
- X-Boost up to 2,600 W. That’s a mode for heating gadgets, not extra rated power. See the FAQ.
- Up to 500 W solar input.
- 10 ms UPS switchover. EcoFlow says the app’s Storm Guard Mode “automatically activates backup power before extreme weather hits.”
- 12.1 ± 0.3 kg (about 26.7 lb).
Who it’s for: You want to wake up to a storm warning and have a full 1 kWh battery by lunch.
Honest downside: The “5-year warranty” is really 3 years standard plus 2 more when you register in the EcoFlow app. Register the day it arrives. And we couldn’t confirm an add-on battery option for this model on EcoFlow’s page, so plan on 1,024 Wh being what you get.

Lightest 1 kWh pick: BLUETTI Elite 100 V2
Same storage as the two above, a bit lighter at 25 lb. BLUETTI listed it at $489 (down from $499) on September 29, 2026.
- 1,024 Wh, LiFePO4, 4,000+ cycles to 80% per BLUETTI.
- 1,800 W rated AC, 3,600 W surge.
- Power Lifting 2,700 W — like X-Boost, a mode for heaters and kettles, not rated output.
- Up to 1,000 W solar input (12–60 V, 20 A max). That’s the biggest solar door in this list.
- ≤10 ms UPS switchover. Five-year warranty in BLUETTI’s spec table.
Who it’s for: You’ll actually carry it — up the stairs, to the truck, to the campsite — and you might build a bigger panel setup someday.
Honest downside: That 1,000 W solar number only matters if you own roughly 1,000 W of panels, and most folks start with one 100–200 W foldable. The Amazon listing title says four AC outlets, so a power strip may end up in the kit.

Best small station you can grow: EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus
Think lunchbox, not suitcase. 10.4 lb, and EcoFlow listed it at $299 on September 29, 2026 (on a flash-sale product page, so that price may not last).
- 286 Wh now, expandable to 858 Wh with EcoFlow’s EB300 (286 Wh) or EB600 (572 Wh) add-on batteries, sold separately.
- 600 W rated AC, 1,200 W surge, X-Boost 1,200 W.
- LiFePO4, 3,000 cycles to 80%.
- 220 W solar input.
- <10 ms UPS. EcoFlow’s warranty table lists 5 years.
Who it’s for: You want a router-and-phones box today and the option to add more battery later without buying a whole new station.
Honest downside: 286 Wh is small. It’s not a fridge battery. The add-on batteries cost extra, so price the whole plan before you commit.

Cheapest keep-the-lights-on box: Jackery Explorer 300 v2
The smallest and lightest here at 8.16 lb. Jackery listed it at $279 (down from $299) on September 29, 2026.
- 288 Wh, LiFePO4.
- 300 W rated AC, 600 W surge peak.
- 100 W USB-C output — enough for most laptops.
- Jackery says UPS response is ≤0.01 s (that’s 10 ms).
- Warranty: 3+2 years. Jackery’s page words it as “3+2 Years Warranty at Jackery.com,” so check the terms if you buy somewhere else.
Who it’s for: Phones, a router, a CPAP (check its watts), a fan, some lights. Small apartment, small budget.
Honest downside: 300 W is a hard ceiling. No coffee maker, no hair dryer — Jackery says so itself. Its cycle rating is 4,000 cycles to 70%+, not to 80% like the others, so it’s not an apples-to-apples number. Jackery’s spec table doesn’t print a solar-input max; its FAQ points to SolarSaga panels up to 100 W. We couldn’t find a verified Amazon.com listing for this exact model, so we link to Jackery only.
How to choose (with easy runtime math)
1. Add up your “must-run” watts
Look at the label or charger brick on each thing you want running at the same time. Add them up. That total has to stay under the station’s rated watts. Not the surge. Not the boost.
2. Guess how long, then do this math
Hours ≈ Wh ÷ device watts × 0.85
The 0.85 covers the energy the station loses turning battery power into wall power. It’s a rough rule, not a promise. Real runtime depends on the device, temperature, and battery age.
| Example load (steady) | ~288 Wh station | ~1,024 Wh station |
|---|---|---|
| 15 W (say, a modem + router) | about 16 hours | about 58 hours |
| 60 W (say, a CPAP without heated humidifier — check yours) | about 4 hours | about 14.5 hours |
| 100 W (a few lights + a fan + phone charging) | about 2.4 hours | about 8.7 hours |
These are our own arithmetic examples using the formula above, not test results. The watts are examples; use your device’s real number.
Rather skip the math? Try our portable power station size calculator: add your devices, and it shows the battery size you need.
3. Fridge? Size up.
A fridge compressor cycles on and off, and it kicks hard when it starts. The ~300 Wh boxes aren’t fridge batteries. The ~1 kWh boxes can help for a while. For the full walkthrough, read How Long Will a Solar Generator Run a Fridge? and How Much Solar Generator Do I Need?
4. Plan the recharge
Wall first, before the storm. Solar is day two, if the sky cooperates. Panels are sold separately, and each brand likes its own plug. Match the plug with Wrong Plug, Right Watts, and match the panel’s watts and volts with Best Portable Solar Panels for Power Stations.
5. Know the limits
None of these will run central air, a well pump, or the whole house. For bigger backup, see Best Solar Generator for Home Backup. Not sure which brand fits you? Try Jackery vs EcoFlow vs Bluetti vs Anker.
FAQ
Can a $500 portable power station run my refrigerator?
The ~1 kWh models (Anker C1000 Gen 2, EcoFlow DELTA 3 Classic, BLUETTI Elite 100 V2) have enough output for many household fridges, but how many hours you get depends on how much your fridge actually uses. The ~300 Wh models aren’t built for it. Our fridge runtime guide walks through the math.
Is “surge” the same as X-Boost or Power Lifting?
No. Surge is a split-second burst so a motor can start. X-Boost (EcoFlow) and Power Lifting (BLUETTI) let some heating devices — kettles, hair dryers — run above the rated limit by giving them less voltage, so they run slower or cooler. Neither is the station’s rated output. Plan around rated watts.
Can I recharge it with solar during an outage?
Yes, if you have a panel, the right cable, and some sun. Panels aren’t included with the base models above. A “solar suitcase” is just a folding panel, not a battery. Check the station’s solar-input limit before you buy a panel; extra panel watts past that limit just go unused.
Can I use it indoors?
Yes. It’s a battery, so there’s no engine and no exhaust — that’s the big difference from a gas generator, which must stay outside. Follow your station’s manual for ventilation, temperature, and keeping it dry.
How we sourced this
This is a spec-and-price roundup, not a hands-on review. We have not lab-tested these units. We opened each maker’s U.S. product page on September 29, 2026 and took specs and list prices from there. Where a maker’s page left a spec blank, we say where the number came from instead. Amazon.com listings were checked as live product pages the same day. We don’t list Amazon prices because they change constantly — use the “Check price” buttons.
