A 2026 “deal” is not the lowest monthly payment on the first page of a quote. It is who owns the iron, what kWh the contract actually guarantees, and who shows up in year eight. This is not a rebate calculator and not a ranking of companies.

What a deal is in 2026
The federal Residential Clean Energy Credit (25D) is not available for property placed in service after December 31, 2025. The IRS says the credit equals 30% for property installed 2022 through that date. Cite: IRS Residential Clean Energy Credit. A cash or loan quote that still prints “30% federal tax credit” on a system you will own in 2026 needs a hard look.
Leases, PPAs, and subscriptions are a different tax story. The homeowner does not own the iron and does not claim 25D. The system owner may still use the business credit 48E. That is not your 25D credit, not a promised dollar pass-through, and not a reason to skip the contract. Ask a tax pro.
Three written quotes
Same kW, same battery yes/no, same roof scope, same monitoring term. Do not compare a 10 kW cash bid to an 8 kW TPO with a battery stuffed in for a rebate. Get workmanship, manufacturer PDFs, who files interconnection, and hail / detach-and-reset in writing.
- Name of the installing legal entity and its state electrical-contractor license (verify on the board — we do not invent numbers here).
- Who owns the system on day one and on the day you sell the house.
- Guaranteed production in kWh, if any, and what happens if production misses. That is not a promise your utility bill drops.
- Who you call when an inverter dies in year eight — local crew, national O&M, lender, or “we’ll see.”

Not a ranking. Empty cells stay empty. No invented APRs or dollars-per-watt.

Production vs bill-savings
A production guarantee is about kWh from the array. A utility bill is rates, export, fees, and whether a battery is in the bid. Good Faith Energy’s public stance (Dallas 2026 research) does not warrant bill reduction. Sunrun’s published production language is production, not a “your bill will be $X.” If the salesperson leads with bill-savings and will not put kWh in the contract, that is a quote problem, not a rounding error.
Incentives you may still ask about
We do not invent dollar amounts. If the bidder cannot name a statute, the cell stays empty.
- Leftover 2025 25D on Form 5695 can carry forward — that is unused credit from property installed in 2025 or earlier, not a 2026 placed-in-service claim.
- 48E for a TPO system owner. Ask who the taxpayer is. Do not write “the lease includes the 30% credit.”
- Oncor 2026 residential solar incentive (if you are Oncor): paid to approved participating providers; new systems; storage backup required for that rebate; customer signs an interconnection agreement; max 15 kW DC. ZIP-check Oncor Find a Service Provider. It is not a complete list of legal installers.
- Texas property-tax exemption for on-site solar exists; confirm with the Comptroller / local CAD. No dollar here.
- Dallas PACE is C-PACE — commercial, industrial, nonprofit, and residential 5+ dwelling units. Not a typical detached house.
Red flags on a 2026 quote
- “30% federal tax credit” on a cash or loan system you will own, placed in service in 2026.
- Only one financing option.
